Dragonfly Inspiration

I saw a lovely dragon fly with a bright blue body while out hiking with my kids the other day. Obviously the image stuck in my brain. This card is for the PIF04 challenge AND the OCCC challenge. Woo hoo – two for one! I received this lovely dragonfly image thru the PIF image thread from Scrapperwannabe (Thanks Misti!).

MAIN PANEL: First I colored the left half of the dragonfly body with the brightest blue copic I have. I colored the right half black. The wings are left uncolored. I then colored over the entire dragonfly with my Virsamark pen and embossed with clear embossing powder. Next River Rock ink was brayered over the entire panel (always wipe the ink off the embossed area with a paper towel immediately after brayering). I only brayered over the panel about 3 times. This didn’t cover it completely which left it a bit uneven and worn looking. Next I used a fern looking image from Silhouettes inked with Old Olive (stamping lightly on a scrap piece of paper first) and placed some soft plants around the dragonfly. Again, I was going for a worn, uneven look. The main panel is backed with a piece of green Bazzill cardstock.

SECONDARY PANEL: I ran the piece of River Rock paper through my Sizzix machine in the D’Vine Swirls embossing folder. I had to repeat this step as the paper was too long to cover all at once. I then lightly stamped the Sanded Background in Old Olive over this. Finally, added the sentiment “inspire” and a piece of knotted ribbon. Again, this panel is backed with a piece of green Bazzill cardstock.

FINAL TOUCHES: The Basic Grey designer paper was stamped with Autumn Leaves Swirls with Virsamark and then embossed with clear embossing powder. There is Old Olive sponged around the edges of all the layers.
